It’s Time To Get Social At Roller Cave!

Social media treeIn the early 20th century, Nikola Tesla toyed with the idea of a world-wide wireless system. In the 1930’s and 1940’s, visionaries such as Paul Otlet, and Vannevar Bush began formulating mechanized, searchable storage systems for books and media. The first workable prototype came in the late 1960’s with the creation of ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) which was funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. What in the world are we talking about? The internet, of course! The internet is so ingrained in every aspect of modern life, we rarely stop to think of a time we did not have it. One fantastic aspect of the internet is social media, meaning outlets like Facebook, Twitter, and Google+, and here at Roller Cave in Indianapolis, Indiana we wanted to pay tribute to these great social outlets by hosting a Get Social Weekend April 8th, 9th, and 10th!

We will be promoting special giveaways on Facebook and Twitter, and offering special deals and discounts exclusive to our social media outlets. We are even incentivizing you to like and tweet us while you are here with fun prizes. You are already online, why not tell your friends and get a chance to win a great prize?

The whole month of April we are having themed weekends with prizes and incentives! Next weekend is Bring a Book Weekend, and you can gain free skate rental with a new or gently used book donation! That Sunday (April 17th) will also be our Gospel Roll, which is always a fantastic time! We have more in store for the month of April, so, mark your calendars, and make plans to be here!

Practice Your Swing At The Bat Cave!

Do you want to improve your bat swing?  Check out some helpful tips for improving your swing, and be sure to stop by the Bat Cave at Roller Cave in Indianapolis, Indiana to try these techniques out soon! Bat Cave

Keep your eye on the ball:

If you have ever played baseball in any capacity, we are sure you have heard this old adage. Keeping your eye on the ball is not nearly as easy as it sounds, however. It is not as much seeing the bat hit the ball, but more judging the path the ball is taking, and judging your distance so you can hit the ball when it comes to you.

Be mindful of the ups and downs:

Palm placement on the bat is very important. The ideal placement for your palms on a baseball bat is one palm up, and one palm down. This is the strongest position you can be in, and it gives you the most control over the bat. It will help you hit the ball with as much strength as possible.

Be sure to bend your arm:

For the best possible outcome, you want your elbow firmly planted against your side. This will make you the most powerful, and create more torque as you spin. The further away your elbow is from your side, the less power and leverage you will have, and the force of the baseball can actually work against you.

We hope you will try these tips out the next time you visit the bat cave, and remember to swing for the fences!

Birthday Party Etiquette

Your daughter is turning four next month! You have already talked it over, and she decided that she wants her party at Roller Cave. She is your only child, so you have no precedent set for how to throw a party. You have read every online forum and blog only to be more confused than ever. At Roller Cave, we want to help! Check out some tips for throwing your child’s party!

Birthday Party Cupcakes

At what age should I throw my child’s first party?

It is generally accepted that around four or five is a good age to throw their first party. At this age, the child has distinguished tastes and is starting to have friends and people they know from school or sports.

How many kids should I invite?

A simple equation is used to figure this one out: the birthday child’s age + one=number of guests. This is often ignored, but it seems appropriate, especially for the younger ones, as to not be overwhelmed.

What about RSVP’s?

The truth is that many of your guests will not RSVP, even if they are coming. An RSVP is very important for a head count, and it gives the guests and the host/hostess a chance to clear up any misunderstandings, such as the issue of bringing siblings.

Do I have to invite a child simply because they invited my child to their party?

You are not required to invite everyone who invited your child to her party. If your daughter is actually friends with another child, sure, invite them; if not, do not feel obligated.

Whether your child is turning four or fourteen, we hope they choose to have their party at Roller Cave! To find out more about our party options, click here!

Roller Skating Defies Evolution!

Skates

As human beings, our main distinguishing factor from our primate brethren is the fact that we are bipeds, as opposed to quadrupeds. One of our earliest accomplishments, after all, was the ability to walk. It seems almost counter-intuitive to then strap wheels to our feet, throwing off balance and making speeds unpredictable, but we have been doing it for years! Roller skating at Roller Cave is one of the area’s favorite pastimes, and here are some of the reasons why!

It is a great, and fun way to get your exercise!

Physical fitness is important to people of all ages, but it can quickly turn into a monotonous, and boring routine. Spice up your exercise routine by roller skating! It is cheaper than a gym, more fun than a yoga class, and burns way more calories than sitting on your couch!

Cost analysis

Roller skating is one of the cheapest, and easiest ways to get your exercise in for the day. Other than the cost of the skates themselves, and any safety equipment you would like the cost is minimal. A gym membership, home gym, bicycle, or almost any other means to exercise will not be as fun or as economical as a night at the rink!

It can be a great way to bond with friends or family!

Want to rekindle a romance? Want to get closer to your teenager? Want to reconnect with your second cousin? Physical activity is one of the best ways to do this, and roller skating is a fun and easy way to get your exercise, making your more physically fit, and making you feel better!

So, what are you waiting for? Grab your skates (or rent them from us) and come on in! We have themed nights, and specials all the time, making the decision practically made!

DO LET YOURSELF HAVE FUN!

Your life is stressful, to say the least, so let yourself let loose a little! Try to relax, and have a good time. Try not to worry about the kids, or dinner, or the meeting tomorrow. Just have a good time!

DON’T TRY TO SHOW OFF

Remember, you are there to have fun, not impress! Do not throw your back out, or fall and break a bone. Understand your limits, while still having a good time.

DO REMAIN RESPONSIBLE

Although you should let go, and have fun, do it in a way you will not regret in the morning. Retain your reputation and wits about you.

DON’T FORGET TO BE LIMBER

Learning to fall is a great tool to have in your belt! After all, even if you were an expert skater in your younger day, you may be a bit rusty. It is okay though, we teach you to fall!

IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO LEARN

We offer lessons to skaters of all skill levels, and ages so find out what time works for you, and give us a call today! 317-898-1817
