Do you enjoy roller skating so much that you’ve recently purchased your very own pair of skates? Great! Roller Cave, located in Indianapolis, IN, wants to help you learn how to ‘break-in’ your new leather roller skates to help you get out on the rink faster and in comfort!

Top 4 Methods

#1  Conditioner- Buy some leather conditioner and rub it on with a cloth or sponge to areas of the skate boot that are too stiff for comfort (like areas hurting your achilles tendon). The leather conditioner will soften the boot’s leather; just make sure you bend the leather back and forth (if possible) when you rub it on. This may take multiple applications to make the leather less stiff.

#2  Lacing- Save the muscles and tendons of your foot and ankle by breaking in your roller skates with the skate laces. Follow these three steps (it may take several days to complete all steps):

1. Lace up boots leaving the top two holes unlaced & top laces loose – Skate 4-6 hours.
2. Lace up boots leaving top hole unlaced & top laces loose – Skate 4-6 hours.
3. Lace boots up completely with regular tension on top laces – Skates should be broken-in.

#3  Wearing- The easiest method of breaking in your new skates is simply by wearing! The more you skate, the more it will help the leather boot to contour to your foot faster. While this is the tried and true method, it may be a little uncomfortable on your feet in the beginning.

#4  Heat Molding- One of the more popular methods in the skating industry is that of heat molding skates. Some pro shops have skate boot ovens for this purpose, but in general, most roller skaters can do it themselves at home. Using a hair dryer, heat your skate boot evenly (more on the stiffer ankle leather) but do not heat too much, as you may damage the leather or burn yourself. Your skate should simply be warm. After it is warm, put your socked foot into the skate and lace it up tightly; in five minutes your skate should have conformed to your foot and be ready to use!

At Roller Cave, we love to have group events! We cater to Church groups, Company outings, Day Cares, Schools, and Personal groups that are looking to have a good time. We have special pricing for each type and size group. We offer a Large Skating, Surface Blacklight, Cave Golf, Two Arcade Areas, Private Party Rooms & VIP Seating, Baseball & Softball Batting Cages, Dynamic Sound & Lighting, Video Screen Projection & Monitors. You can use our Full Service Snack Bar or an outside caterer.

Want to hold an unforgettable corporate event? No problem! Roller Cave can cater to a group of 10 to 500. We offer discounts for Church Groups that can either be during Public Skating or a Private Rink Rental events. We also encourage teachers to bring their class to get a hands on experience with Newton’s Law. Roller Cave even offers Fundraising options, so please check these out as well.

During the daytime you can choose from three different options for your group. The first is a group discount during public skating sessions (weekends, some holidays, anytime kids are out of school). The next is a semi-private party where you choose start-end times and may or may not share the skate rink with public skaters. This starts at $150! The last option is a Private Party where you and your friends are the only skaters. This starts at $180. The price changes with the number of skaters (up to 75) and the amount of time (1.5 to 3 hours). We offer discounts to students and even for food too!

Ideas for Managing Stress – Roller Cave Style

One of the best ways to manage stress is to adapt a healthy lifestyle. This includes little things such as eating healthier, getting more sleep, and exercising regularly. Not everyone likes to exercise, so at Roller Cave we want to suggest something that might be a little different than your average exercise. Roller skating is a fun alternative to traditional exercises. Depending on weight and intensity, you can burn over 300 calories in an hour when roller skating! Rollerblading outdoors can also be a stress reliever as it allows you to relax and not stress about things at school, work, or home (rollerblades are typically the best skates to use when skating outdoors).

Our indoor batting cages are also a way to manage your stress and perfect that swing of course. The BatCave allows for you to choose your speed and take a swing at kicking stress. Not to mention 60 minutes of batting burns about 100 calories for a youth, and even more for adults!

Another way to manage stress is to listen to MUSIC! Guess what?! We offer four music formats for your skating pleasure, all family friendly of course. They range from Kidz Jams to Pop to Rock to R&B to Gospel to some Old School hits. The schedule is listed on our website so you’ll know when you can plan to skate to your favorite jams!

The Bat Cave

If you’re not in the mood for roller skating, don’t worry! At Indianapolis’ Roller Cave we have other attractions to offer, such as our fantastic Bat Cave!  The Bat Cave is a state of the art indoor batting cage facility, which allows you to have a truly immersive batting experience!

Indoor Batting Cages

If you don’t see yourself as a batting professional, it is okay! Our batting cages were specifically made to match your level and age. This means you will be able to improve with every minute spent in the cage; moreover, our staff is always nearby if you ever need assistance! If you are a parent teaching your children to bat for the first time, we also offer hitting drills, which include tee work & soft toss!

On the other hand, if you are a batting professional, do not be shy to showcase your skills! At Roller Cave, we have just installed the latest and greatest in our new Pro Tunnel! This tunnel was made to challenge even the most advanced of batters, in every way possible. Our Pro Tunnels offer the most advanced batting machines, which are capable of pitching balls in speeds between 35 MPH and 100 MPH. These will also pitch curveballs and fastballs, as well as offering a “random” option to keep you on your toes!

Don’t forget to work on your pitching game as well as your batting game! We also have special tunnels which allow you and a friend to pitch and bat together, so you will always be on top of your game! If you’re a coach for a local baseball or softball team, consider having some team practice at Roller Cave. We also offer personal memberships, as well as team memberships to The Bat Cave. These grant you privileges such as: daily walk-in’s, homerun membership, plus 30 minutes in the Pro tunnels weekly, all at very affordable prices! In order to guarantee you a pitching lane or batting cage, we ask that you please reserve one in advance; however, walk-ins are accepted.

Roller Cave Attractions
